The PuttingZone
by Geoff Mangum - Geoff Mangum's PuttingZone

In my experience, the first problem is how to make a straight putt, and then how to transfer those skills to making a breaking putt. On the first, I think there are four basics: Touch (green speed appreciation); Tempo (one total length of time for every stroke); Targeting (controlling the physical behaviors used to generate accurate, vivid, and efficacious perceptions for purposes of movement); and Technique (setup and stroke postures and movements designed to enhance targeting and work optimally with the realities of the body and physics). These four give you optimal putting skill for sinking straight putts over a wide range of distances and surfaces. Then there is Reading putts, meaning mostly reading break and making the energy of the putt match the break. The same straight-putt technique applies, but the targeting is slightly more complicated.
