Course Details

Description: Long and challenging but never unfair. Built to the natural contours of a rolling prairie and some farm land, Clover Meadows is a nice mix of challenges.

That same feeling that the course was built on top of the earth rather than sculpted out of it does not induce the feeling that this is a "quality" or "high end" course and it make no pretensions of that anyway.

Built: 1978.

Fairway grass: Bentgrass. Always in good shape. Rough is kept short.

Fairway width: Normally wide open. Lots of room between fairways.

Greens: Bentgrass. Not deliberately tricky. Always in good shape.

Green size: Average or smaller.

Water: On 4 holes.

Sand traps: On 9 holes.

Fairway markings: 100, 150, 200yd plates. 150yd burning bushes. Sprinkler heads marked down middle of fairway also.

Blind Holes: Many. This obviously wasn't a major consideration in the design.

Signature Hole: Hole #17, a 384-yard, par 4, requiries an uphill drive to a dogleg left, then over a pond below to an elevated green.

Walking: No impediments.

Our Comments

Excellent groundskeeping.

Bob Gerlach just seems to love golf and it seems as if he is inviting you to share his playground.

Bob does have the property available for sale.

6/8/03 - Greens pebbley after aeration. Fairways and rough are lush and firm. Sand is good and deep. Has become a lovely course over the years. Not many sand traps but those are big and yawning. Older trees are starting to encroach on the fairways - especially on #12 where an extremely narrow opening makes a narrow drive through the maples at the creek.

6/26/01 - Holes # 7 and 8 are have been reworked. #7 still drives off the mound but goes straight to a new green as a par 3. #8 is a longer par 4 north from the tree opening that was the dogleg of #7.

10/19/04 - I am a regular at this course because the track is fun. Every hole seems to be different and challenging. I live closer to numerous other golf course, but I drive to this course to play it instead. The environment is exceptional. All the employees are personable and always willing to help me out. The course is maturing and getting better every year. It is not the most difficult course but the challenge is there in every shot. My favorite hole is hole #16. It a 410 yard par 4 sloping up then down with a large pond directly behind the sloping green. Large pine trees line the right side of the fairway. - Mike

9/22/04 - Was very impressed with the course. I love the front 9 and enjoy the back. $9 for a round of golf (walking) is a great deal. Greens have a lot of movement and the course is in great condition! Always a pleasure to play. - J. England

6/30/04 - All in all great condition. The greens have recovered well after the aeration in early June. The price is very affordable and the clubhouse is a comfortable environment with the staff accommodating and friendly. The regulars out there are very friendly and eager to give advice and play a couple rounds with you if wanted. My choice for best course for the price in Indiana.

8/5/03 - All in all, a nice course for the money. Fairways and greens are in nice shape, although the tee boxes could be cut a bit tighter. If they would only trim back some of the older trees, the course would be even better in my opinion. Some holes have trees encroaching at such a rate that the hole is unfair. Still, nice bang for the buck and a challenging round.

7/20/03 - Course was in excellent shape. Fairways are cut short and very playable and the rough is long enough to penalize but you are still able to find your ball. All in all a very enjoyable round. Very good price for a course in this condition. - Jim

5/1/02 - The greens are the best we have been on all year. The fairways are in very good shape, no standing water and mowed. On one hand you want to tell everyone how great this is, on the other hand you hate to see too many players on it. - Steve

4/22/02 - A great, peaceful, and challenging course. Hole #2 is breathtaking visually - a long par 4 that slowly dogs downhill and to the right, where a crater of a sand trap is protecting the green in front. Hole #8 is one of the toughest par 4's around - over 400 yds through a tight wooded opening and one heck of a tough putting surface. The course is interesting. Back-to-back par 5s on the back 9 are followed up by a 94 yard par 3. The design of every hole gets at least a 7 on a 1-10 scale, with the exception of #18 - a downhill, then uphill, dogleg that sometimes doesn't seem to have a fairway. The hole seems to be jammed into a course that's running out of space. But overall the course is outstanding and well-kept, and you won't find a better golf environment for such a cheap price. - Phillip
