Our Comments

3/18/02 - Over the winter, 4 new shelter houses were built by many volunteers.

The Elks Blue River lodge just turned their golf course public in 1999 and seem to be cutting back a bit on that principle for 2000 in an effort to retire some debt. Tuesdays are for members only. Green fees have gone up about $8 - 18 with a cart is now $48 on weekends - putting it among the more expensive.

Blue River is a stately country club setting. Mature trees flank wide fairways and roughs.

Holes # 1 and 17 tee off high bluffs. The back nine is mainly on rolling terrain. Holes # 3 through 6 are east of the Big Blue River and have a secluded feeling.

10/12/02 - Ok course, needs some improvement. The fairways on the back are a little too narrow for my taste. The greens are really fast when I played, great trimming. The price is way too high though; it is the only thing holding me back of playing another round. - Bob

6/30/02 - Gave this course another try on Sunday. Besides being over priced ($41.00 for 18 w/cart @ 5:00 pm on a Sunday) the greens were bumpy and uneven. Fairways were nice. Water jugs were empty. - Mark McClanahan

3/24/02 - Course was in decent shape. Some of the greens that stay shaded were in that kind of shape. Am giving it another try. Pace was good. Overall not bad. - Mark

3/18/00 - First time played. Staff very friendly. Driving range modest, older balls, no markers to flags. Greens fair size to small. Wish I could find this quality of greens in summer. Fairways very good. Traps mostly in good shape. Some fairways and tees a little too close together for my taste. No map of layout of course any place to be found - very confusing for first timers. Priced a little high for green fee if you want to walk. - R.M. Abernathey

11/11/99 - Wow. That is the best explanation to use for this beautiful course! Last Sunday my old truck just turned in. I could not resist. It was late in the day but I had driven by this course all year and wanted to get in a quick 9 holes (my mistake). This course is not for speed but for the enjoyment! For a first timer it will intimidate you but what beauty and what great maintenance. The people who both play the course and who maintain it are great folks. Thanks for a great afternoon of golf. - Jim Riley
