Our Comments

The layout is actually pretty easy to score on. A short par 4 and mostly short par 3s stress making the green with the short irons - just what this facility was built to teach. Pete Dye's trademark undulating greens are very restrained.

Fancy building. Fancy teaching facilities. Impressive pedigree.

Doc O'Neil has gone lavishly public with his teaching after being the staple at Crooked Stick. He's a pal of Pete Dye so we have one of the most prestigious executive courses in the world right here in Indianapolis.

They've added an attractive pond between the club house and the driving range. Nice touch.

5/9/01 - We found The Golf Preserve's executive course to be in pretty good shape. Greens are smooth, reasonably slow, and held wedges well. Fairways are filled in and mowed close. It's easy to be in deep, unruly grass if you're off the fairway.

5/2/00 - It's a good place to walk. The trees lining the holes give some shade but the fairways stay mostly sunny. Wind will rarely come into play, in fact it may be breezeless in the summer. Personally, we'd like to see benches on every hole (rather than about 4 total).

Instruction

The present facilities are all about learning to play golf better. Emphasis is on Junior programs during the summer.

Mid June through mid July is their normal junior program of 6 sessions on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

4/27/04 - I can hardly wait to play the three new holes. I will miss those par 4's, but they were tough holes for me. They have an excellent practice facility, and a very friendly staff. I will miss the course when The Bridgewater Club goes private. - Alex

10/17/02 - My 13 year old and I played the course recently and had a great time. It's perfect for both of us. He was able to use all of his new clubs for the first time. I was able to use most of my clubs as well. The condition of the course was magnificent and made for a fantastic father-son golf outing. We'll be back many times. It only took us one and a half hours to play the 9 holes. A great teaching course. - D. Housemeyer

4/16/01 - Played this course with my son and father-in-law, really enjoyed ourselves. Found the greens in good overall condition, although several holes did have unrepaired ball marks. - Rick Underwood

7/10/00 - Have played this course several times in the last few weeks and really like it. It has a lot more character than you'd expect from a mostly par 3 course. The par 4's (except for the last one, #8) all put a premium on accuracy as they're somewhat narrow - but short so you can play them with a couple of mid to short irons. #8 is the only hole where I use a wood (3-wood). There is drinking water on the course now and they do a good job keeping the jugs full. Caution - Friday (during the summer) is kids/juniors day so you can't get out until after 3:00pm. - Steve Parvis.
