Our Comments

While no holes can be considered excessively  long, the total yardage adds up to longer than average.

Much of the difficulty comes on the subtle greens that are maintained lightning fast. The Superintendent, claims that Greenfield CC has the fastest and truest greens in town and challenges everyone to compare them. If you want to experience pro-quality greens, this is the place.

Not only the staff but also the regular players and members are very friendly to visitors.

A popular pastime for members is putting 20' up the tier-hill on the green at #9 and watching the ball roll back that 20' - very slowly.

8/18/03 - Greens fast and very smooth but will hold a high shot. A+. But we still think it's better to bump and run since the frontages are wonderful. With the new crushed limestone sand, everything around the greens is a joy (if you can handle the pro-level speed). Some new bunkers have been added in their ongoing project of converting regular brown sand into crushed limestone, fully drained, bunkers. Roughs short, Fairways good. If you ever want to score your best on a 130-slope course, this is your opportunity.

6/30/04 - Great course for the price. Classic country club layout similar to GCI and Highland CC. Fairways were in good shape, rough was just enough to make you think about club selection, but not too tall. Greens were fairly receptive and held approach shots OK. Greens were true and fast - wish more courses kept them this fast. I'd love to have another chance at #5 - a tough hole no matter how you play it off the tee. Only complaint was pace of play - nearly 5 hours and we didn't see one ranger.

6/2/04 - I think the course is one of the best values around. All the holes reward well thought and well placed shots. The greens also putt as true and as fast as any you will see in the area. This is a course that if you are willing to drive out East for you will definitely not be disappointed. With the layout, this is one you can get some matches going on. I will definitely be a repeat customer. - Chris Wells

5/19/04 - Played for the first time over the weekend, and I must say I enjoyed it very much. Wasn't very crowded for a Saturday and was quite dry considering all the rain we had last week. Fairways and greens in excellent condition. Greens in particular rolled very true, although not as fast as hyped. Probably because of the recent rain. The layout is mostly excellent, but it gets a bit repetitive for a few holes on the back side before finishing strong on the last two or three. #9 green is really interesting. I got on the proper level, luckily. I will try to make it back if I can. - Dan

4/27/04 - Played like it was mid-summer! Great fairways and the greens are superb. Only complaint is the hardness of the greens makes it difficult to hold long irons. You can't beat the $37 price on week-ends either. Definitely worth the price. - John Barger

9/23/03 - The greens were very fast. The fairways had some burn out but were still in pretty good shape. Was able to play the ball down. The new sand traps make a big difference.

9/15/02 - I have always been pleased with everything (personnel, condition of course, time to play, etc.) However, I was particularly disappointed by the amount of weeds and crabgrass on the course, even in the fairways. I really like this course and hope that they work hard to return the course to condition of old. I will play this course in the Spring and give them another chance to prove they deserve the three-ball rating from Indygolf.com - David

7/3/02 - Nice course to play during the week, and as hot as it is they have plenty of water jugs on the course. The price was right with the Indiana Golf Pass - $25 with a cart. The staff was helpful, being that I was a single they sent me off the back nine. Which I played under two hours. The greens are in great shape, rolling true and smooth. Lots of shady spots, at least that's where most of my balls landed. - Mike Lopez

9/4/01 - Once again, the personnel at Greenfield CC were outstanding - small-town friendly and appreciative of the business. Somewhat disappointed in the condition of the course. We played here less than three months ago and the course was in great shape. Yesterday, however, there were patches of weeds in the fairways and ruts in the fairways and rough. Fortunately, the worst areas were marked ground under repair. This is a course we will play again but not until late spring next year.

8/16/01 - Just started this year and had a blast. I found playing here very challenging but at the same time forgiving of my drive. The people that were playing around me were trying to help me with my slice and even let me into their playing group to continue helping me out. I will be going back often. If the people from GCC happen to read this thank you for getting me hooked although don't let my wife see you. - Mike Cimarossa

5/25/01 - An update is in order. At the end of March, I played Greenfield CC and was critical of the conditions of the greens. I played the course again 4/13. What a difference! The greens had a consistent pace and rolled true. I took my Dad for the first time and he just raved about the condition and layout. My love of the course was reaffirmed. - Joe Loukota

4/2/01 - Staff was great, fairways were good, but I was disappointed in the greens. Grass was long making speeds inconsistent. I know it's early, but I've been waiting 4 months to play. Great bunkering added on #17. I look forward to lightning greens later in the year. - Joe Loukota

3/21/01 - New superintendent and General Manager this year. Golf course is in excellent shape, all bunkers should be redone with crushed limestone this year. The slope rating was changed last year and is now a strong 133 from the back tees. Very challenging course with small fast greens.

7/20/00 - $42.00 week-end rate average with most other courses. Well worth it! Wall to wall cart paths installed late last season and the greens are some of the best I've ever played. Very fast but will hold a shot. The blue/rye fairways were in excellent condition as was the rough. Sand in the bunkers was a little inconsistent but pretty good over-all. Excellent staff and exceptional pro by the name of Mike Farrer. Well worth the 30 minute drive from Fishers. We will definitely go back several times this season. I feel like I found a hidden jewel.

Superintendent's Comments

4/9/99 - Greens are fast and being cut at our normal height of 1/8". They are rolling a strong "9" and we will be topdressing them next week which generally increases the speed by at least two feet. Greenfield is not widely publicized, but again without tooting my own horn too much, we have some of the finest putting surfaces in central Indiana. The fairways are in excellent shape. The rye/bent/pao turf is currently being cut at 9/16".

I also want to mention that we are a registered participant in the Audubon International Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses.
