Our Comments
Big-shouldered country club course with Tim Liddy splashed
sand touches.
Holes 10 and eleven, both skirting a narrow lake, are two
of the prettiest holes anywhere. 10, 11, 12, & 13 make a very tough
and scenic foursome.
There is a great variety of monstrously protected greens.
The 15th hole is practically an island green as it is surrounded
left, front, and right by 10ft drops to sand traps - a daunting
fortress.
8/16/04 - As always, a joy to play. Errors are punished,
good shots, rewarded. Again, playing by myself, couldn't keep up
with the two-some ahead of me.
Fairways soft, smooth, and quick. Greens soft, smooth, and
quick. Sand soft and smooth. The greens have a firm base (helps keep
ball marks to a minimum) that makes even soft grass run fast - also
makes pitches more challenging. Old hole plugs testify to the firm
substrate.
7/13/02 - Played on a Saturday afternoon in 3 hours even
while following a 5-some all the way. Well, not all the way, they
were in their cars by the time I got off the course. These people
believe in speed golf. |

8/10/04 - A wonderful course, quite
scenic. Very well taken care of. The fairways and greens in
excellent shape. Greens were fast & true.$25 after 2:30 a real
bargain. Pace of play really good - played in 3 1/2 hrs. Friendly
staff. The yardage markers seemed a bit off. Hitting 9irons 150
yards;5wood 250yds seemed 2 clubs off. One hour drive from Indy well
worth the drive. - Brian Martin
5/19/04 - What a nice course.. Well
worth the drive from Indy.. Pace of play is unbelievable, If you
cant play in 3.5 hours you'll slow down the locals.. Staff is very
friendly.. Very enjoyable round - Robert Boling
8/28/03 - I had a great time. The course was in great
shape the greens were firm and smooth. the fairways were green all
over (even in mid August). The course was fair but still a challenge
from the green tees (one of four) choices. The price was a bargain
for a course of this caliber. - Big V
8/8/03 - If you like old golf course design you will love
this place. The original 9 holes rank right up there with the best
in the state. I have played this course twice this year and both
times in perfect condition. Harrison Hills is the real deal. Only an
hour from the northwest side of Indy, take advantage, you will not
be disappointed. - Kevin T
7/13/02 - The new (now 7-year old) holes have come in
pretty nicely, it's unfortunate that most of the new property is not
on par with the original. I think holes 3-7 aren't bad and fit
nicely with the original design given the property. Once you get
past #7, however, this course can go hole for hole with any public
course in the state (I especially like #12 - outstanding). The
fairways are running very firm and very fast. Any golfer who
appreciates these kind of conditions and isn't hung up on having
every hole look like #13 at Augusta would do himself/herself a favor
and get out and see this hidden gem! - Rob Hallford
7/19/01 - The course was in great shape as usual, we
played on a Thursday about 10:00, was not pushed at all and played
in 4hrs. 10min. - B. Little
9/18/00 - Harrison Hills is a beautiful golf course. We
played during the week and we didn't have to wait one time. The
staff is very nice and treated us like human beings. The course is
in excellent shape and for the price you can't beat it. The only bad
thing is that it is in Attica. Although the drive is a little long
from Indy it's well worth the trip. |

Owner's Comments
In 1923 J.W. Harrison commissioned William Langford to
design a nine hole golf course to be located in Attica, Indiana. The
idea was to establish the golf course and club as one of the best in
the state. The golf course would benefit the community of Attica and
the employees of Harrison Steel Castings Company, also started by
Mr. Harrison. Mr. Harrison proposed providing the land and building
the golf course, with the membership paying for the yearly
maintenance. The membership started out with 100 people paying dues
of $40.00 per year.
Throughout the years Harrison Hills was operated as a
breakeven operation. Every so often someone would bring up the idea
of adding another nine holes. In 1991, land was acquired which would
enable the expansion to 18 holes. In 1993, Tim Liddy was hired to
design the 9 hole addition. Tim was asked to design the additional
holes, taking into consideration the architectural ideas of William
Langford and the original holes. In 1995, work began on the
expansion of Harrison Hills. Original holes 1 and 2 would remain in
the same position. Hole 3 would start off the new holes and continue
through half of hole 13, which tied the two courses together. Holes
14 through 18, are the original holes 5 through 9.
To help tie the courses together the original holes were
renovated. The tee boxes were rebuilt, bunkers rebuilt to original
size, concrete cart paths added and the fairways were converted to
bent grass. The end product, one of Indiana's finest new 18 hole
public golf courses.
Today's course features four sets of tees, bent grass
fairways, tees and greens. The generous landing areas guarded by
deep fairway bunkers offer wonderful views and challenging shot
making. Most of the greens are elevated and undulating, guarded by
deep bunkers. Mature trees, tall fescue deep rough and water are the
obstacles, which encourage you to keep the ball in the fairway.
Enjoy your day of golf on a golf course nominated to Golf
Digest's "America's Best New Courses for 1997. |
