Hole # 7 on the East course was acclaimed one of the 18 greatest holes in Indiana by the Indianapolis Business Journal.

Course Details

Description: There are 27 holes playable as 3 18-hole courses on this subdivision country club.

The East course is a traditional flatlands course that plays long. The South and West courses meander through the woodside and are separated much further from each other.

Built: 1964.

Fairway grass: Bluegrass.

Water: On 15 of 27 holes.

Sand traps: On all holes.

Course marking: Stakes at 100, 150, 200. Sprinkler heads marked. Flag colors: Red - front, White - center, Blue - back.

Walking: The South and West courses have some considerable walks to the tees. Carts recommended.

Signature Hole: East # 1 is a 427yd par 4 that can be shortcutted over a pond to the far side of the dogleg right.

South # 9 is 542yds with two doglegs.

West # 7 is 451yds - a short but difficult par 5.  Water comes into play twice, a short drive must carry the first creek, but if you tag it too well, you will find the second creek.  Your second shot can be as short as 180 yards to a large green protected by out-of-bounds and a single pot bunker.  If you decide not to go for it, your lay up shot will not be the easiest, the landing area is protected by the creek on the left and out-of-bounds on the right.

Alcohol: Allowed.

Only private course I've played with blue grass fairways. They're great to hit from and I think they make the course play longer because you don't get the bent grass roll. You can still pinch an iron, but it's not the same as on bent.

The greens are much larger than average, but are usually kept a little slower than other private clubs and upscale daily fee courses. I think their focus is on making sure the greens survive every summer and they're willing to give up stimp speed for no burn-outs. I'm not sure about that, though.

There is a fair amount of OB on the course with the housing development it winds through. There is also a lot of water especially the creek that winds through the entire property. It combines to make for some tough tee shots and approaches. Big numbers are always lurking, which I think makes it harder to score low here consistently. My handicap went up about 3 strokes when I started to play here instead of one of the upscale daily fee courses in Carmel.

The fact that it has 3 nine's is an underappreciated bonus by non-members. 50% more holes means not only a more varied test of golf, but also far less boredom risk. Each 9 has a fairly distinct character.

It's a great test of golf and you should follow up on any offer to play it. It's also a great gambling course because the last hole on every 9 is a par 5 where anything can happen and the par 5's are clustered near the end of each 9. There are also some great risk / reward holes that are fun when there's a little something riding on things.
