Our Comments

Indy Park's old men's muni. Always busy. You're secluded from the city noises and sights except along hole #8. Nice parkland setting with lots of mature trees lining the rough.

Pleasant Run is tight with fairways close together at times. Watch for groups in your fairway and balls headed your way.

9 holes have blind shots including 3 with blind approaches to the green. Hole #12 really needs a bell. Your first time playing here should include a guide.

#18 is a nice par 5 that drives off a 40ft cliff.

A creek produces interesting and unusual configurations at numbers 3, 4, and 17.

Watch your drive on the 8th. It parallels busy Arlington Ave. and crosses the entrance driveway.

9/20/03 - Velvety greens that are not quite smooth - but smooth enough to allow three 10+ ft putts.

5/29/02 - Greens are sorta soft and fast but quite acned. Tee boxes could use attention. Roughs cut short.

9/15/01 - All grass is in good late-summer shape.

4/7/01 - In good condition but the greens still need work. The thought of playing in the cramped space last Saturday with a full course and 25 mph winds was a "fore"boding experience. Indeed, we had to duck twice and our cart was hit once.

8/4/04 - I have to echo the comments for this past week - this course is in wonderful shape especially in comparison with so many of the "high priced" courses. Readers - check out their coupons on their website - wonderful savings. Couples (man/woman) can play on Saturday and Sundays after 11 o'clock for $30 total including the cart. Speed of play can vary from 3.5 hours to 5.5 hours. Well worth the time and money. - Susie

7/28/04 - I have played this course my entire life and have never seen it better - and in late July! It is obvious that Denny Ford is determined to make this old soldier even better. The tee boxes are dramatically improved and the greens were as good as any I've seen this year. Plush is a word I never thought I'd ever use for good ol' P-Run. - Bruce

6/1/03 - I play here on a regular basis and course is in best shape of the year right now.

5/2/03 - Pleasant Run is in great shape. #3 Green has healed well, it looks the best I have seen it in my seven years of playing the course. The greens were a little slow but we had rain last night so that should be expected. 18 bucks to walk on Friday morning, well worth it. A very walkable course. - Greg Gibson

6/8/02 - Course is in good condition overall, except for teebox on #11 where it needs some new sod in the worst way. Greens were in good shape and receptive to well-struck iron shots. I used every club in the bag even though the course yardage is only 6,000 yards from the tips. The staff was friendly and professional. Overall the experience was a "pleasant" one at Pleasant Run. - MrHaversham

6/5/02 - I love this old course! Sure the greens are in "muni" shape and if you can hit the ball 240 plus you are a nine iron or less to the green in on most of the par fours. This is a great course for your ego. The price is terrific! The fairways run side by side so watch out for stray shots.

9/26/01 - This is a great course for the money. Although the course yardage is short, we played the back tees. A mild breeze made scoring a challenge. This 'older course' has good greens when the ball marks are repaired. -Mike Lopez

6/24/01 - In really good shape considering the many players haven't learned how to fix a ball mark. Greens and most tees in good shape. It was the first time I had played it this year. They have made some great improvements to the clubhouse. Nice new men's restrooms (you don't have to go to the nasty basement any more). - Tim Blandford

Tight above average old city course. Hard to score on. Don't play a local for anything but fun!

Play midweek, because the tight layout means you'll be visited by errant drives from adjacent holes.

The course layout was fun, but definitely play with someone who knows the doglegs.

Probably the quirkiest of the Indy municipal courses. Course yardage is very short, owing to the fact that most of the par 4s are in the 280-340 yard range - although the 450-yard 12th makes up for more than its fair share!

Three of the par 3s are simple wedge shots, but the 160-yard 7th requires the right club to stay below the hole on a severely tilted green tucked behind a deceptive ridge.

This is a great course for the money.

A couple of great driving holes with tees up on a cliff.

Indianapolis Parks Comments

A relatively short course which has gentle rolling terrain and seven water hazards. Tree-lined fairways and a winding creek make play enjoyable.

Pleasant Run Golf Course was established in 1922 and is located in the heart of Indianapolis on the city's East side. The sounds of the city disappear in this tucked away sanctuary. Our 18 hole facility features white sand bunkers, rolling terrain, and a number of challenging creek crossings. We have a fully stocked Pro Shop, Snack Bar and host many of the city's outings. Pleasant Run was just recently upgraded to a Silver Course within the Indy Parks Organization. We will see you at the course!
