Our Comments

7/1/00 - Greens were fairly soft, lightning fast and smooth as pool tables.

Built on a Rock Industries mine from the 40's thru 60's. You are secluded to the point of not knowing that there are other golfers or even other holes around.

It's secluded, hilly, affordable (especially after 2pm), and highly recommended. There's a large staff including 2 rangers, a starter, 2 beverage cart girls, 6 cart boys, and more ponytails in the club house than you can shake a stick at. Once you go through the fence past the barn and actually get onto the course, it's a whole world back there.

Busy outing schedule. Always reserve tee times if you can but, if you want to play at the last minute, check their events page to see if the course is closed for an outing.

There are 3 holes with large sand traps but most of the design doesn't rely on protected greens for difficulty. There are plenty of scary tee shots over water or weeds though.

Many times the woods and wilderness areas are marked as lateral water hazards. This means you can drop the ball where you lost it. Hurray!

Laser Link Quicksilver yardage system. Hand-held unit reads to pin.

Rock Hollow is Proud to be the Home Course for the 2002 Buick Classic Champion Chris Smith.

9/22/04 - I must say this is one of my new favorite courses in the state. Besides the quirky cart rules (carts only allowed on fairways and cart paths and never to go in rough), I had a great time playing this course. My group ended up driving a few of the par 4's (we played the Blue Tees which are only about 5800 yds) and landed on all but one of the par 5's in 2 shots. The greens are extremely difficult to read but are in immaculate shape. The entire course itself was incredibly well kept. Also expect to lose a few balls this upcoming fall due to the numerous leaves already lining many of the fairways. I would love to make the hour and 30 minute drive from the northside of Indy to play this course again. - Patrick Roe

4/27/04 - What a course. A beautiful layout and in good shape already this year. A little under a two hours from Indy and well worth the drive. Very secluded and natural with only a few houses on the course. We saw deer, rabbits, squirrels, ducks, swans, geese, and one groundhog (I think they want to get rid of him). My only criticism is the sand is a little course or rocky, not soft and fluffy. - Ron Moore

3/18/04 - Played course for first time last summer. Thought the course was one of the best I've ever been on. Great condition, makes you think about your next shot because of all the possible trouble spots. - David Dimmich

8/9/02 - Fairways, greens and unfortunately the rough are all in excellent condition. This is the best course I've played in Indiana. The greens are the smoothest that I've ever seen. Very challenging course that will test your temper at times. Very nice staff and the beverage cart went by every two holes. This is how every course should be. Would highly recommend the drive to Peru to play Rock Hollow. - Steve

4/16/02 - Fairways were very wet in places but in great condition. Greens were slow initially due to the wet, but had few ball marks and overall were in excellent shape. Despite the soggy conditions, you can tell "The Rock" is ready to roll this spring. As the sun finally peaked through and started to dry out the greens, we got a preview of the speed to be expected this season (warning: stay below the hole if you can!). If you have not made the trip up to Peru, you owe it to yourself to go at least once this season. I can't think of a better golf deal within 1.5 hours of Indy. - Rob Hallford

9/20/01 - My father, brother and I went to Rock Hollow near Peru and played this fine course in a little under 4 hours. It would have been quicker but we had to look for some stray shots off of the tee box. The greens, tee boxes, and fairways are in beautiful shape. It seems that they are letting the rough grow up and it is long. This is a course that I would say rates up in the top 5 in the state. I would recommend anyone to take the time to come up from Indianapolis and see what you have been missing. - Brook McCain

9/13/01 - Of course it's no secret how nice this course is, but I was up from Indy yesterday for 36 holes, and it's in even better shape than usual. I've had the pleasure of playing Medinah, Dubs Dread, and Valhalla, and none of those courses have anything on Rock Hollow in terms of playing conditions. The fairways and greens were perfect (and fast). The only things those other courses have are multi-million dollar amenities. Of course you don't have to pay for that at Rock Hollow, just highest quality golf. As usual, the staff was the friendliest and most helpful in central Indiana. - Ron Beilke

6/7/01 - My buddies and I have a tradition that takes us up to Peru at the beginning of every season. Rock Hollow offers a very secluded setting in the old rock mine and the golf seals the deal every time. This course is always in great shape (though I've only played it early in the season). The staff is extremely friendly and the rates are very reasonable. When you go back into the course you feel as if the whole place is yours. Fast greens, a well manicured fairway add to the enjoyment. The best part of this course has got to be the setting. Nature abounds in this little golf sanctuary. A very special course that is well worth the drive. - Jeff Robinson

7/6/00 - The course was very good shape, fairways were perfect and the greens were fast and smooth. I played on July 4th at the twilight rate of $29.00 which is everyday after 2. Very good deal for the price. - Parker Black
