Course
Details
Description: Bustling rural course
built on, surprise, a rolling meadowland. The front half is
tree-lined outside the rough while the back half has less trees.
Several notable, large, old majestic trees have been strategically
built into the design - some as centerpieces in the middle of
fairways.
Built: 1994.
Fairway grass: Bentgrass.
Fairway width: Varies. Lots of room
between fairways.
Greens: Bentgrass.
Green size: Large.
Water: On 5, ok, maybe 9 holes.
Sand traps: On 16 holes.
Course Marking: Stakes at 100, 150, 200
yards. Sprinkler heads.
Blind Holes: A couple of holes require
blind shots to the green if you are out of place in the fairway.
Signature Hole: # 17 is 155yds to an
island green.
Walking: There are considerable walks
from the clubhouse to # 1 tee and from # 18 green. |

Our
Comments
A well designed course for those of limited walking
capability. Cart paths near the greens and tees are quite close and,
with 2 exceptions, at the same level.
Mounds surrounding fairways tend to feed balls to the
middle. Greens are heavily protected and, with fast greens, demand
high shots to be on in regulation.
An excellent course that has a very loyal following in the
area. Worth the drive from Indy.
The management has an excellent rapport with its
customers.
We think this is Tim Liddy's first course after leaving
Pete Dye's tutelage and the undulating greens have the Dye trademark
- easy to read breaks completely wrong.
One other noted feature is the long carries needed to
reach fairways from the Black, Gold, and even White tees. You'll
need to reach 180+yds a few times to find short grass. Sometimes
shortness will put you in a valley but rarely in water or reeds.
8/24/04 - A bit damp after Friday's rains but no
places weren't playable. The greens were dry, quick, and smooth.
9/1/02 - In good shape after a dry, dry summer. Green
speed varies.
4/5/01 - Rolling Meadows likes to keep their greens fast.
Unfortunately the grass is not always in smooth enough to support
the speed. Slower speed putts can go offline in the last few inches. |

8/9/03 - Great course. Fairways in good condition
considering all the rain. Greens had been recently aerated. I would
rate it right up there with Martinsville for the most bang for the
buck. Caution, don't bring any short hitters, there are a lot of 150
to 180 yard carries to reach the fairways. The only issue I had is
with the tee areas. It's worth the drive. - Dan H.
3/10/03 - They added another pond between 11 and 12 in an
old creek/waste area. Doesn't come into play on 11, the par three;
but it defends the right side of the fairway on number 12. This is a
par 4 some people can reach so the water is definitely in play. I
had a 2 on this hole once, with witness, but it is not easy. Blind
tee shot. - Nick McCammon
7/26/02 - You won't find a better staff anywhere. The
course is in good shape this year. The fairways are like hitting off
carpet but, the green have experienced some problems due to the
large amount of rain in the area. I have been told they are really
coming back in since I last played. This one is really worth a
visit. - Steve Hanson
4/22/02 - Great course. Just a note about the 5 water
holes. If you are long on #2 you're in the water, if you are left
and short on #3, yes in the water again. #4 Tee off over water and 2
ponds down entire left fairway and on one side of green. #9 tee off
over water, don't top the ball here. #12 water on the right, #14 tee
over water and water on left of fairway. #16 has water all the way
around par 5 on the left and it is a dog leg left. Beside and behind
green. #17 par 3 over a lake. It is not really an island green, just
a wide green on the other side, not too deep and with high mounds
behind. Nice hole. On #18 there is now water on the right but hard
to reach unless your tee shot is short. So I count 9 water holes.
But not to hard to keep the balls fairly dry. You can hit driver on
just about every par 4 and 5. It really has about everything except
the Dye all trap fairway. Dries out pretty fast. - Nick McCammon
4/28/01 - I am a student at IU, and the people here are
wonderful. This course allows for a very enjoyable round. You can
make your round more difficult by playing the black tees. I played
in the P.A.T. at Rolling Meadows. Didnīt pass, but am still going to
keep coming back. - Troy
9/2/99 - Greens in good condition and watered a LOT!
Fairways are struggling but green. Rough is gone for all intents and
purposes. Great people!
The above posting was after a solid month of dry, hot
conditions. - Ed.
