 |
| Why do we use
the "slope" rating to determine the difficulty of courses instead of
the "course" rating? From
the USGA handicap manual (here):
Course Rating (eg. 71.2) is the
USGA's mark that indicates the evaluation of the playing
difficulty of a course for scratch golfers under normal course and
weather conditions.
Slope Rating (eg. 113) is the USGA's
service mark which is used to measure a player's potential scoring
ability on a course relative to the scoring ability of a scratch
golfer on that course. It is a measure of how much above or below
the Course Rating a player with a given Handicap Index will score.
A golf course of standard relative playing difficulty has a Slope
Rating of 113.
Simplified, the slope is an indication
of how hard the course is for the average golfer. |
