Our Comments

Don Turchan, an Indianapolis contractor, is the owner/builder. He sees the course as a place to come have fun, hit some balls, and maybe bring a date.

Their summer camps were full in 2001 and many youth leagues, tournaments, and parent/child leagues make this an active place.

Two principle drainage ponds let 12 holes involve water but you never need hit directly over the ponds - just don't pull or push your shots. The USGA-spec greens are small but normal-to-big for a short par 3 course.

You have your choice of hitting from mats or grass on every hole.

A 300 yard driving range is located in the middle of the property, splitting the two 9s.

5/9/01 - We are very impressed with ShorTee's on a number of fronts:

  • The layout is intelligent with very few places to get in the way of errant hits even on such a compact layout.
  • The late afternoon shade on the back 9 is a joy.
  • The longest hole is 96 yds but each hole has variety - up, down, water locations, and wind factors.
  • They've already built up a regular clientele and are keeping the two teaching pros busy.
  • The grass is lush an filled in. The USGA-spec greens have matured nicely.
  • The greens are remarkably free of ball marks. They repair them every morning before mowing.

6/15/03 - The course is a great place to play! It is low priced but is very nice. The greens, fairways, and everything is flawless. I give Shortee's 5 stars.

3/31/03 - Wow - What a blast. I thought my short game was good, but this little course proved to be more of a challenge than it appears. Shortee's is great when you have time for a little golf. It took our threesome one hour and forty-five minutes to finish all 18 holes. Why aren't there more par 3 courses? - Guy Miller

8/5/02 - Excellent course. The best par-3 I've ever seen. The grounds are well kept and the staff is superb. The short holes and low cost make it the best place around for working on your chipping and short game. Don Turchan is a great guy that's always there, looking after the course. Five stars. - Jonathan Kovey

7/30/00 - What a treat! I don't know when I have so much fun with a golf club in my hand. A bit pricy but it is just outside Carmel. A seasoned golfer only needs a sand iron and a putter but had best bring a few extra balls as the strategically placed ponds may come into play even for the best. - Charles Ray Harmon

7/26/00 - Took the family out and had a great time. Thought my short game was good until I hit my first ball. A good confidence builder. Fence for the range didn't keep all of the balls from finding the course. We all had a good time.

7/12/00 - The course was in good condition, though the greens were very hard. I had trouble holding some greens with a sand wedge. As you might expect on a par 3 course, the tee boxes had plenty of divots. I took my eight year old for his first round on a "real" course. He had a great time, which made my round all the more fun. Prices were reasonable. One problem, the two nine hole courses are separated from the driving rage by only a net. A long draw hitter on the range can make a few of your tee shots very interesting. - A. Gleason.
