Clubs, Leagues

Very active Men's Club and very popular for league play.

Our Comments

Jerry Hayslett (of Eagle Creek GC) is the new licensee at Thatcher. The antagonistic attitude of the old management is gone. Bryan Crouch has found a home and has made tremendous improvements.

Home of the Indianapolis Junior Golf Foundation.

During league season they have leagues every day from 3pm to 6pm.

We have one major complaint about Thatcher - the compact layout combined with the location of some greens and tees makes it a physically hazardous course to play. "Fore" is heard regularly. Add novice players, since this is a suitable course for beginners, and injuries can result. The tee box at #7 is a very dangerous place for instance.

Their chipping area behind the parking lot is very, very nice - a complete par 3 hole.

Most fairways are very narrow or have trees jutting into the fairway - accurate tee shots are rewarded. Equally as tough on hookers as slicers.

Stay to the far right on #7 or you'll need to go through a big tree to the green.

None of the yardages match. Generally use the scorecard but #6 is shorter than that or the tee box sign.

7/20/04 - In good condition without the city-wide green problems. The trees are very mature on this shady course and we guarantee you will need to deal with overhanging limbs somewhere along the line.

10/19/02 - Being aggressively maintained. A friendly, busy, neighborhood course. Worth playing.

3/20/01 - In good early spring shape.

6/17/03 - It was simply beautiful. Their fairways are so green and soft, not to mention how beautifully cut their greens are. For the price you pay, it is simply an awesome course. - Randy Clark

3/24/03 - My father in law and I play this course many times a year. We have always had very friendly service at the clubhouse. Etiquette is not too bad on the course for the most part. The new management as well as Bryan have really done a wonderful job in revamping at what one time was a dying course. Thanks to Bryan and all the staff, we will see you soon - Don

6/28/01 - The fairways at Thatcher are good and can get hard in the summer. The rates are good and that's what keeps me coming back.

3/8/01 - I played about 85 rounds of golf at Thatcher last year. I played there not just because the rates are great, I played because of the quality of people that work there, they are the friendliest people I know. They are treat everyone out there as if the were family. And I feel it is great for the kids that they are only charging a couple of dollars for junior rates. I know this is not the greatest course in the world but it sure beats hitting whiffle balls in the back yard. - Andy

5/7/99 - Fairways very full. Greens a little long and dirty with tree bloom droppings. But we call it Home.

Course's Comments

4/16/01 - Concerning the best Men's club in town, just thought I'd let you and everyone else know we had 58 players last Monday. I don't know of any men's club or choose-up with that many players. What a great bunch of guys we got. - Bryan Crouch - Pro

Indianapolis Parks Comments

A short course with narrow tree-lined fairways, flat terrain and three water holes. Difficult in places, the course offers challenges to the average golfer. A practice area is also available.
