Our Comments

All courses should have a place like the back porch of the clubhouse at Tomahawk Hills. It looks down on holes 1, 2, 3, and 9 giving good views of people dunking balls in the creek before the 2nd green.

Greens roll consistently. Lots of break on most putts due to slanting greens.

Hole #6 requires a long, accurate fade. Hole # 9 requires two long, accurate shots.

One of our favorites.

We've had the cart die coming up #9 in the late afternoon and have heard this happens from other people. It's hilly and electric carts just have one good day's charge. The carts also get more distance going forward on fairways to see if the group ahead is gone. All in all, hard on batteries.

Conditions are kept so well because Greg is out playing every day. It's his course and he likes to golf on a nice course.

8/11/04 - Now with 100, 150, and 200 stakes. This makes quite a difference. Greens are quick, smooth, springy, and perfect. Breaks make it imperative to read your putts well. Fairways are browning naturally, not a problem but are a bit thin in spots.

5/26/03 - Greens are A+. They hold shots well, are smooth and fairly fast. Fairways and roughs are A minus - the few bare spots around this non-cart-path course are not troubling. On Memorial Day the play was quite slow as Tomahawk Hills and Clermont GC get everyone on the west side that doesn't have a tee time.

6/29/02 - See next three comments. Nothing changes at Tomahawk Hills - for which we're happy.

8/25/01 - The course is in pretty good shape and came through the hot dry summer well.

4/14/01 - In good shape. Greens medium this spring but really don't hold shots.

5/25/00 - In good shape. Greens are fast and don't hold remarkably well. It's a hilly course and always a fair challenge.

3/23/05 - I just played there last weekend. The course is in wonderful shape for early in the year. The greens were rolling well and were in great condition. Tomahawk Hills has some of the best conditioned greens in the area. There are never any bad spots on them, and they are always smooth and quick. With all the slope on them, three putts can come at any time. I really love playing there. - Jeff

3/22/05 - I played Tomahawk Hills this weekend and had a great time. It was in great shape for this time of year. They have started mowing the greens already, and they were rolling great, which is unusual for early spring at most courses. Tomahawk is a great course to play all year long. - Steve

9/29/04 - One of the funnest courses I have ever played. It's a truly great layout that is well worth the drive from Indianapolis. The greens are in better shape than I have seen anywhere. They are undulating with no bare or thin spots. The fairways are a little brown right now which is understandable with the lack of rain, but the areas around the tees and greens are very well maintained. Everyone should play this course at least once. - Jason

6/23/04 - You can add Tomahawk Hills as one of the fastest drying courses. Played it on 6/13 and found it to be in remarkable shape. The fairways were mowed, the greens soft and true and what I would describe as medium in speed. Good job to Greg and his crew. - Ben

3/25/04 - Tomahawk Hills has one of the best layouts around. The course is beautiful with its tree lined fairways and many creeks and ponds. The course is always in great shape, especially the greens which are undulating and challenging. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and the prices are great. This is the best golf course in the area for the value.

5/6/03 - Very fun course. A couple of holes will challenge single digit handicappers. It is off the beaten path, but is worth the drive for something different. #2 is a fun par 4 with an approach shot over a creek with the green protected by a lake. Have golfed there 8 times. The management, however, does not seem eager to please.

9/26/02 - Number 9 is one of the best holes in the state. It is a par-5 shaped like an 'S' carved into the middle of trees and creeks. It is one of the most well known holes in the area. Being at Tomahawk a lot, I hear many people talk about how hard that hole is.

6/18/01 - I was very impressed with Tomahawk Hills. The course layout and hilly terrain made it a challenging yet enjoyable afternoon. Course is well maintained around the greens, which is amazing for a small, inexpensive, public golf course.

Both holes four and eight have very sharp doglegs. Four’s dogleg is very short off the tee, forcing big hitters into choosing an iron instead of a driver or fairway wood. It still leaves a very long second shot. Aim to the right of the windsock to avoid bunker in front left side of green. Most will not make it to green in two.

On eight a bad tee shot leaves you in a world of hurt. A formidable hill needs to be addressed followed by a blind shot to anticipate the dogleg left. Only a great approach shot from 145 yards saved my par. A good tee shot will land on the fairway at the top of the hill making it a good birdie hole if you can make it that far.

The ninth is a great and demanding hole to finish. Tee shot is down hill to a landing area. Trees crowd both sides of the fairway warning the average golfer to go with a long iron for better accuracy. Second shot is up a large hill with a creek in front. Creek not really in play unless your tee shot lands outside the fairway. Also make sure you stay to the left, for if you go right the hill drops off drastically. Par is great on this hole.

3/11/00 - One of my favorite courses. Although the fairways could be thicker and tighter, the very challenging greens take up the slack. For the price, it's one of the best.
