Our Comments

A+ on the setting and scenery. A short course confidence builder for the bogey golfer.

Many of the fairways have a serious sideway tilt. Plan your tee shots well or you can end up behind trees.

Many of the greens are rolling but have flat centers so putts of under 10ft are comparatively easy.

The yardages on the scorecard are off by as much as 20 yds. Rely on the plates on each teebox - if you can read them. For instance, the white 150-looking marker plate on the middle tee box of #5 really says 110 yards even though the scorecard says 150. All scorecard yardages are drastically overstated (or we can all of the sudden drive 280yds).

Be aware of hidden water on #4 and #5.

With the addition of a second chipping area and an indoor computer video analysis room, Bill has created a full training facility.

Leagues start about 3pm just about every Monday through Friday.

GPS on carts shows distance to the center of the green.

6/27/03 - In good condition. Greens are smooth and fairly quick.

8/12/01 - Good condition with greens harder than normal but hold high shots.

3/23/01 - In good early-spring shape. Fairways are fast - and tilted - leading balls to the sides often.

10/12/00 - In great shape. The greens hold well and aren't overly fast. A good course to score well on.

11/25/04 - I've played competitive golf for more than eight years and think Whispering Hills is one of the best "weekend courses" I've encountered in the Midwest. It's great to encounter more than one hilly fairway and a few blind shots into the greens. Expect a fair but challenging round for a very reasonable price. - Laura Adkins

8/1/03 - The fairways were in good shape but the greens had a few too many ball marks that had not been repaired. $14 for 18 holes walking and it was a bit busy and on each 9 a nice couple asked me to join them. Appealing course looks-wise. The yardages on the scorecards and tee boxes are rarely the same. Over all very friendly place. - Peter Burkhart

5/13/03 - I played here 2 or 3 times in 1991 when the course was new. I played again 5-9-03. The course has matured nicely, but something had changed. It wasn't until I found an old scorecard that I realized that the 5th hole used to be the par 5 (across water once or twice) and six was a long (190 yds) par 3. Also, I thought that the fourth green had water in front of it. - Joe Smerdel

8/28/02 - I vote Whispering Hills as the course most in need of a mandatory etiquette course prior to play and a bigger stick for the rangers. I watched the "Ranger" sell beverages to a group of SIX, then drive off. I'll go back because Whispering Hills is a great course for the money, but my advise is to not expect any courtesy from some of the players (most are great) or enforcement from the staff. - Bill

8/5/01 - I was very impressed with the condition of the course. I was also astonished at the pace of play. Sunday and Labor Day were both quite slow. I enjoy playing at the course, but from now on I'll probably be playing only 9 holes at a time. - Matt Dillard

7/28/01 - This is a fun course to play if you want to take a few hours and hook up with a few Bud's and get in a quick but also challenging 9 holes. I would put this 9 hole course up against any I've played as far as the layout and conditions. Staff is always cool and are actually "Friendly". Nice practice area and range. It is sometimes tough to play 18 here as with all 9 hole courses it gets backed up. All things said, very enjoyable! - Butch Bragg

11/7/99 - Jim Riley - Upon arrival at this course it is noted that it was laid out for the beginner (in my case I was very thankful). The staff make you feel like you belong. Playing this 9 hole course is a true pleasure however if you are not aware of the lay of the course you can get into trouble real quick. The reading of the 4th hole is tricky but the course itself is beautiful.

5/25/99 - Nick Rowlett - I play Whispering Hills on a regular basis, as I have since I started playing there. Great for a beginner, and always a good time for the experienced. The price is always right to go play after work, because you can get 9 in before it gets dark. The staff is always friendly as well.

Great course for a beginning golfer.

It is a very well kept course.

Indianapolis Parks Comments

This course is the newest of the municipal golf courses. The course challenges players with various shot placement and hazards. It offers the golfer rolling hills, lakes, wooded areas, and a full service driving range.
