Our Comments

Tough but fair. Some of the holes are scenic and/or unique. #5 is a long, straight par 5 that demands a drive over a sloping hill. On #11 a barn can block your approach to a well-guarded green. #17 is a 70 to 120 yd par 3 with 4 tee boxes covering more space than the green.

The last 4 holes give a very pleasant and scenic end to the round. #15 stands against any hole in town for scenic beauty and interest. It was nominated as "Favorite Par 4 Hole" in the 2001 IGGCA.

Our only complaint about Winding River concerns the greens. They're in good shape but some, like #14, are so sloped and so fast you can't stop the ball near the hole when putting. When the hole is cut on the slope you can arc 6 foot putts up toward it all day.

All 3 of the par 5 holes are quite long. They also all head south so a strong wind can add yardage 3 critical times.
